Another Senior Moment

I think |I am fairly on the ball as they say, most of the time, but then I have a lapse and it turns out to be a Senior Moment* A senior moment is when you do something so truly stupid, its laughable.. I have gone to the Dentist and say brightly, my appointment is at ... and I think I am a little early, and they say, actually, you are a day or a week late!! Monday last, I was booked in for a phsychiatric assessment, so see what impact all the issues I have to deal with since the failed operations, has had on my mental state. So, John my husband and I set off for a fairly long trip up the motor way, about ten junctions and then another motorway before reaching the destination. The weather was so lovely, warm sunshine and bright skies, so we rattled along feeling very good in ourselves .After about an hour and a half, we arrive at the treatment rooms. We are early for the appointment, but we went in anyway, only to find that the person we planned to meet, never held his clinic there on a Monday, only Wednesdays! WE can never do a wednesday because we babysit John's grandsons after school every week, so when I had received the original letter I had to call and re arrange on a different day. So Monday 23rd March was agreed and then it gets silly. I cannot remember having a letter of confirmation, but somewhere I did get the information of the new address and timing, and wrote it in my diary. However, I was still under the impression that the original consulting room letter would show the address I was needed to attend.. So, there you are, another moment of total stupidity and if he needed any confirmation of my mental memory, he could see that it was in actual fact quite awful** I have re arranged another meeting but that will not be until May now as these people are always so busy. I could kick myself for such a silly mistake, but luckily John was not annoyed at wasting the afternoon, because as he said, it was a nice ride out and he enjoyed the driving.. That was,for me, quite a relief.. With my first husband, not sure I would have got the same reaction! I have now put it up for all to see, that I wish to lose 49 lbs in weight and am going to try and attempt this over the next 6 months. I know I shall not be losing it easily, but I do aim to try harder.. Its so simple to accept how one is, but truly those pounds would make me feel so much younger and fitter in myself. So I am going to try and say what I have lost each Monday morning on my facebook page.. Lawd help me! ARE there any other tricks to achieve this. I am not able to jog any more as I have two metal knees and right hip, so walking is not easy either, but I do manage at least a mile, three times or more a week, taking my dog out.I know I shall have to keep a diary, and drink plenty of water, and be careful of portion size, but what else is there to chivvy it along? As I write this, I am 15 stones in weight, which is a lot for my height of 5 ft 5 inches. I would love to get at least a stone off by my Canada trip in June.. so it is really a serious matter to do... of course I have tried many many times over the years, and never got lower than what I am now.. I lose then put it back on , again and again.. very dispiriting as you can imagine. I dont want to be thin, just less bulky in my torso! My mother of course was tiny and petite and worried about my size after having all the children. each time I was a larger person, and that was five times I went through the pregnancy.. so wish me luck.. the buck stops here as the man said...

  1. I use an app called Lose It and that helps me track. Do you have a TOPS group where you live? Weight Watchers is so expensive. TOPS has helped me a lot. Support is so important.

  3. It isn't easy is it? I lost some by just cutting out ALL pasta and only 2 slices whole grain bread a day - lots, lots of veg and of course fruit. I'll be thinking of you when I fix dinner tonight :)

Love the pictures of your house and your two "kiddies". You British folks have such of lovely way of painting and papering rooms - very pretty blue.

PS: I couldn't find my car keys for two whole days. Finally decided to go for a walk just to get out of the house...yes...they were in my coat pocket !

  4. I too have entered that senior moment time of my life. I couldn't find my bank card even though I knew I had put it in my purse. After looking for two weeks, I got another card from the bank. I had to wait for it and then change all my numbers. A real chore. Then two months later I change purses and when emptying the old one out find the card had slipped through a rip in the lining.

I need to lose weight so badly but just cannot seem to do it. I guess I just don't have the willpower to stop eating the bad stuff.

    1. Kathy, it is one of those things they dont let you know about getting older! what a pain to discover your card again after all that time.. but that wasnt your fault if it slipped in the lining.. Losing weight is much harder when you are older, and besides you dont move so fast anymore.. but I know that if I concentrate on a high protein diet, it does go, so I am going to try and do that and drink lots and lots of water... why dont you try that and keep in touch with me, to see if we can succeed this time?

  7. I think Debra and I should go on a road trip! :)
Get yourself in the water Janzi! Water aerobics or swimming, really gentle on the joints and gives you the resistance you need to gain muscle. Muscle burns fat faster, so the key is to build some. High protein, lots of fresh veggies and fruit, water, avoid white foods and artificial sweeteners.
Now I have to go figure out how much a stone is.

  8. My senior moments I blame on having so many things on my mind. It is a good get out.
Hope you have success with your weight. One tip is to never buy butter or oil and always use one calorie spray for cooking - I find it works perfectly well and is an almost invisible way of eating less calories. I also train myself to dislike cake - and it has worked, I never crave a piece now.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Have you been to Canada before? We have been many times - it is our favourite destination.
    Do pop in again.

    1. I went many times when my daughter and husband and son first moved there 13 years ago, then I have not been since due to health issues.. but I am off again to see them in a different house and location, in June, cannot wait to be there.. I loved Canada, and if I was widowed, might seriously consider living there, or in Australia Perth, where my first son lives with his family... with five kids, I have choices ha ha

  9. It seems to me we are all travelling the world in different directions to see our children!
We are in New Zealand, our daughter has been in France for 15 years and we are off again in June to have some time with her and our three gorgeous granddaughters!
Our son has just moved to Australia so now we're Derby & Joan, a status I never could have imagined.

I've battled with weight too, as you said Janzi we don't have the same movement as in the younger days. I need to train myself to resist cake and sweets - I loved the comment from 'The Weaver of Grass'!

I retired for four years and I've been back working three days a week for just over a year. It has helped stimulate my memory, however I write EVERYTHING in my diary and I live by that, otherwise live would become impossible!

Lovely to meet you and thank you for joining my blog, I look forward to seeing you again soon!
